A lder Barn is a tastefully converted barn on the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire borders, bringing you very spacious luxury holiday accommodation. Located in the picturesque Tudor village of Ashwell this is a stunning place to spend some quality time with friends or family.

The barn has three tastefully appointed bedrooms and a mezzanine balcony which has a comfortable sofabed, making it suitable for groups of up to nine guests.

Our roomy master bedroom has a kingsize bed, pine bedroom furniture and sleeps two people. Bedroom two is a split level room, housing a double bed a balcony area and also a single bed, so is able to sleep either two or three people. There are pine bunkbeds in our third bedroom and it therefore sleeps two people.

On the ground floor there’s a very large open plan living area, with enough sofa seating for all the guests, a large screen TV and a DVD player. Also a roomy kitchen with a big dining table where everyone can eat together, a full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

The Dixies is a quadrant of converted barns, some residential and some small local businesses. There is a hairdressers and beauty salon as well as an art gallery and parking for Alder Barn is in the large shared parking area.

Alder Barn is in the beautiful village of Ashwell, which dates back to medieval times and has some beautiful buildings and great local shops and businesses, such as: Rhubarb & Mustard (Purveyors of Fine Things), Crumps the butchers who supply quality locally sourced meat, Days Bakery, a small local supermarket, a pharmacy, a post office, a florists and a fabulous local pub, The Three Tuns, who have a gourmet food menu and a great children’s menu too.

Wardown Park Museum

Formerly the Luton Museum and Art Gallery the museum is housed in a Victorian mansion in Wardown Park on the outskirts of the town. There is a local focus to the collection with traditional Bedfordshire crafts including lace-making and hat-making featured prominently.

The Women’s Hat Industry collection contains over 600 hats although these are not all on permanent public display. There are also examples of 17th century lace and displays of decorative art including Saxon jewellery.

There are many interactive displays exploring life in Luton and the surrounding area over the past 150 years. There are also costume and room displays to explore.

The military history of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment is presented by the Imperial War Museum in a dedicated gallery and there are three or four temporary exhibitions each year.

Ashridge Golf Club

Ashridge Golf Club was established in 1932 and regularly features in the top 100 UK golf courses. Between 2003 and 2008 the club hosted an ‘Open Championship’ Regional Qualifying Competition. The Club has also regularly hosted PGA events as well as County and Regional Championships for both Men & Ladies. The course measures 6,678 yards and with a par of 72, it is suitable for both average and good players.
